Introduction.
Dear Corvette owners, enthusiasts, ladies and gentlemen.
The website, you are visiting now, is the first step in the realization of the objectives which were defined
in a meeting with all presidents and/or representatives of Corvette Clubs attending the 2009 International
Corvette meeting in Suhl, Germany.
Although Europe has many languages, the initial website is written in the english language. We assume that
everybody driving a Corvette understands this language, otherwise reading Corvette user guides and shop manuals
would be difficult. Maybe other languages will follow in the future.
Worries, issues and whishes.
During the discussions a lot worries, issues and statements were put on the table. Too much to write down.
However, we have tried to group the major issues into following list:
- Too many international meetings or big events are organized at the same time. This means that people have to
make choices to which one they will go to and as such they would be missing another beautiful meeting.
- For some clubs it is very difficult to organize an international meeting every year. Various reasons were
mentioned, such as size of the country. The organizers fear that continued annual organization of their event
will loose attraction and entertainment and finally, despite all the work, nobody will be interested anymore.
- Most of the Corvette clubs in Europe are small, as such they do not have any influence on city councils or
commercial organizations to have meetings organized as they want.
- Some of the members expressed a wish, to have one European wide organization that would represent all Corvette
clubs. Such organization could then use the power to have influence on city councils or commercial
organizations.
Objectives and action points.
With respect to above mentioned discussions, 3 major objectives were defined. Concerns and thoughts are listed as well:
- To set up a calendar of international meetings so that overlaps are avoided.
- Some thoughts:
- The geographical location of the international meetings should be taken in account.
This would not be done for local meetings.
- To organize 1 big international meeting per year on a rotational basis.
- Some thoughts:
- Maybe more than one meeting.
Possible organizer should be assigned at least 1 year up front, maybe 2 years.
- To set up an organization that represents all European Corvette clubs.
- Some thoughts:
- All clubs should keep their independency.
Interested clubs should be a member of this organization.
Maybe based on a confederate organizational structure.
In order to get the ball rolling, the New Paddock Corvette Club Belgium has volunteered to set up an initial
website, the one you are reading now. It would be a simple one with a meeting summary and the list of European
Corvette clubs. Of course, this website will evolve together with this project.
It was agreed that a follow up meeting would be organized at the 2009 Corvette Fame event in Valkenburg, the
Netherlands.
Word of gratitude.
Initiatives have no meaning if there are no people willing to spend time and effort to take action. Therefore I
would like to thank:
- Friedel Sahm and Fernand Conrardy for calling and setting up the initial meeting in Suhl, Germany.
- Ctirad Kotoucek for composing and sending me the initial list of known European Corvette clubs.
- Netwire for providing the website resources.
- Corvette Fame organization for organizing the follow up meeting in Valkenburg.
List of European Corvette Clubs.
Remark 1
- This table is for information only.
Corvette clubs mentioned in this table, do not automatically agree with this project.
Only the ones with the green background color agreed to this project (to be confirmed).
Remark 2
- In order to avoid scam engines to capture email addresses from this web page, the @-signes are
replaced by the character string (at). Also the 'mailto' code is removed for security reasons.
